These cookies are typically made with ingredients known as galactagogues, which are believed to help increase milk supply. What are galactagogues?

Galactagogues are substances that promote lactation in humans and other animals, often used to stimulate milk production and address low milk supply. These lactation-inducing compounds can be found in various foods, and provide natural support for breastfeeding mothers.

Some examples of foods containing galactagogues include:

  1. Whole grains, particularly oatmeal
  2. Dark, leafy greens such as alfalfa, kale, spinach, and broccoli
  3. Fennel
  4. Fenugreek
  5. Garlic
  6. Chickpeas
  7. Nuts and seeds, with almonds being especially beneficial
  8. Ginger
